And Brian joined us back in episode 74, sharing how he transformed his own health through sauna therapy with his own breakthrough product. And I know a lot of our listeners, parents, they may not be focused on their own self-care, but it is extremely important in terms of a parent who's navigating, trying to help their child and make good decisions. So before I hand it to you to share more of your backstory and specifically your sauna space line of products, Let's just try to cut to the chase. This morning I was in the sauna space sauna. For 35 minutes and exited feeling great, refreshed. Tell our listeners why that was a good idea that I did that for my own self-care.

Yeah, the sauna space approach incorporates light and heat therapy together. So It's a sauna.

Like all other saunas and producing sauna benefits. And it adds in another therapy called light therapy. And These are two fundamental ways to , So The sauna therapy stands... On its own for promoting wellness basically in all aspects of our health.

So we're The root cause of disease is, like the way that Dr. Ed Group says it, that it's the root cause, that the root cause is disharmony in the internal environment. And external environment. When we have toxins and pollution in our body doesn't work that well. And given the modern context with our exposure to so many toxins, having a sauna at home becomes almost a necessity, not just a luxury.

So basically, what does it do? It detoxes you. And when you clean the body up by removing toxins... Through heat and through sweating, The research indicates that you reduce your risk of dying of all things non-trauma related. There's some incredible longevity research now on almost a 30-year long studies now on Finnish in the Finnish population. And... As far as what it's cleaning up heavy metals, plastics, microplastics, petrochemicals, so chemicals of all kinds, whether it's pesticides and herbicides or it's glyphosate or just all the chemicals that are in all the modern technology and in the food and the water. And it improves cellular function.

So it fixes how your proteins work basically in your body. So sauna is detoxing you and, optimizing cellular function. It's making the cells work better. And light therapy is basically the use of red and near infrared light to heal damaged cells and optimize function of healthy cells.

So there's although they're different cellular systems, there's a lot of overlap. And the light therapy. That we use is a is called the firelight spectrum. It's the spectrum of the sun, without ultraviolet and blue light.

So it's the whole healing compliment of the sun and in its natural power distribution. So all that means it feels really good. When you use a sauna space on it has That's a really nice rejuvenating grounding centering uplifting feeling. It's not like draining or too intense like some sauna systems can be. And on top of that, The spectrum provides the heat. With the sauna space on, you heat the body radiantly. That means your sauna sessions are really short.

So you're, like you said, it's 30 or 35 minutes with our standard system with four bulbs. With seven bulbs, you can actually cut that time down to like 15 minutes. But it's, The benefits of sauna come from using it three times a week, raising core temperature three degrees, sweating out, something like a pound of water. And so with our approach, you don't have to preheat it. You just get inside and.

Like you said, in about half an hour, you're done. With other saunas, you can achieve the same sauna detox benefit But you just have to stay in there longer.

So it's really convenient to be able to do a sauna session really fast and makes it more accessible and helps you kind of get to a discipline of doing it a few days a week, which is what's ideal. And the rest is a kind of unique design approach that we take. It's all handmade in our factory. I'm actually in the factory right now. You can Honestly, behind me. Below.

So it's all handmade here and there's a particular emphasis that we make on quality and intentionality. In the whole process. The materials are really quality. The finish is... The polishing of the wood and all the components is extremely high quality and very intentional. And the design is as well.

So the design is fully EMF shielded. EMFs are another source of toxicity basically nowadays.

So all of our light panels are EMF shielded and the Sonic comes with a grounding mat that both protects you from the wire electricity and It gives you the grounding therapy, what we call earthing therapy. Yeah, I'm nodding as you're talking, because again, I'm a convert and I came to you and purchased your son, I think now four years ago at this point, maybe longer. But it was because I had one of those. Quote unquote, top of the line, huge. Saunas that took up a lot of space and it was because of the silver lining that you had that became really important to me because even though I had a sauna that was a far infrared sauna and again, From a company that was really well established, I never really thought about the EMF impact of being inside because if you're inside any confined space, you'd want to ensure that the EMF environment wasn't at a toxic level. And that's what I found with my old sauna where you're the only person then. And I think even now who's actually thought this through in terms of providing a sauna experience that is in a very minimal or low or no EMF type environment. And you talked a lot about a lot of things. And that's what kind of makes the sauna space unique is that there's so many benefits in one place. Device or one contraption, if you will. And just to take a step back for our listeners, as Brian led with, any sauna, particularly the sauna space, it's about detoxification, right? There's stuff that needs to come out and there's a lot of ways to detoxify. And this is one that is very effective and pleasing. But then on top of that, there's things you can do to help give your body what it needs to help it be more of what it can be, and that's where the red light therapy and the near-infra-wave wavelengths come into play, correct?

- Yeah, and it's not the only thing. The body has a number of detox systems, but they're all designed to work in concert. The most major detox organ of the body is the gut. And some people say the gut's like the king of all organs. And really, quite often if you have an issue that's in an organ. Or a tissue besides the gut. It makes sense to look first to the gut. What is the gut health? From the embryology perspective, like all the organs of the body bud out of the and Brianna Gutt. And the gut has this nervous system connection throughout it where it has these nerves that are connected to the whole lining of the gut. And when something goes wrong, You can have joint pain, you can have skin issues, you can have autoimmune or other immune issues, or brain and it all comes back to the gut. But the gut... As the king. Does so much work, it's working all the time, but it isn't the only organ of detox. Detox a lot through the breath.

That's why people do tongue scraping in the morning because you wake up in the morning and you actually have toxins that you've exhaled throughout the night that are on your tongue. And the kidneys and urination eliminates a lot of toxins. But The sweating is really unique because the heat activates the sweating in the skin, but the heat at the cellular level activates a unique detox system that are called the heat shock proteins. And this is a detox system that is not normally active. But if you heat the body up, like when the body creates its own fever, That's actually a good thing. The body's fighting off infection and it heats up. The cells and creates heat shock proteins that help cell detox work better. And they help correct damage from the damage that pathogens or endotoxins or whatever else, viral toxins have caused.

So it's this unique way of cleansing people the body and the cells, by heating it up and getting the toxins out of the cells with the heat shock proteins and then sweating them out. So if you sweat them out, then you're, your gut and your kidneys and liver and stuff don't need to process that stuff. It's just excised from the body. The more we research sweating and sauna, we realized that you can actually detox anything. With sweating, especially in a sauna. Chemicals like petrochemicals, heavy metals like mercury, aluminum, and so forth and even like microplastics, for the most part, act as xenoestrogens. They act as like hormones in the body and we want to get them out. And this is just a really powerful way to bring the organs of detox into balance and support you know, the gut and the other organs that are working all the time. And it, You can use the sauna at a clinic or at a spa or something, but there's a unique convenience to having it at home that really lends itself to using it a few times a week. And it just, it becomes such a staple for keeping yourself healthy. When you're using sauna a lot, What does that mean, reducing your risk of dying, of all things non-trauma related? It means that you don't get sick as much. Because your body's clean. Our bodies are a perfect universe inside. They're divinely designed and they have all these amazing healing systems inside and they just really need some very simple things from the environment, to support like the built-in functions that we already have. And sauna is clearly one of them. And light too, you know, we're beings of light.

Like we, When we look at the sun, over 70% of the power we absorb from the sun is near-infrared. So we've designed our bulbs to kind of center on the near-infrared spectrum of and give you a little bit of red and lots of near-infrared just like the sun does, Because that's how the sun heals us. And red light therapy is more and more common nowadays. But most of the red light therapy is LED based.

So it's like digital light. It's one wavelength and a really high power level. And in contrast, the Sonos-based Firelight spectrum is all of those wavelengths of the sun that stimulate like therapy responses and the heat. The radiant heating wavelengths from the Sun that stimulate heating. All together in this natural form of light that is the light we're biologically programmed to get. We're not detoxing enough and we're not getting enough sunlight. At all And so this is a great way to stay healthy in the modern world, especially in the West, where our food's not very nutritive, And especially in the U S like, We have so many toxins now in our water. In our all the products we use nowadays that It's definitely like a primary contributing factor to all disease. Is pollution, is toxicity. And it's a, almost daily challenge to continue to help the body move things out.

So you stay ahead of the curve. You don't want to just stay like you're eliminating as many toxins as you bring in, you actually want to eliminate more and get back to Slowly but surely to the optimal. State of being where the body is predominantly toxin-free.

Right, because we live in such a toxic world. So anything that you can do to help your body, again, detoxify what it can. And anyone who's listening to this podcast regularly hears about the importance of detoxification because of all the things you mentioned, chemicals, pesticides, metals. And I know if you're ever going to go down a road of detoxifying, sometimes it's really important to have to take binders of some form if you want to bind the toxins and make sure they're escorted out of the body because there are a lot of detox approaches. But in this case, if you're just sweating, it's very safe to sweat out what the body's ready to sweat out. And would you recommend, you know, in addition to doing sauna, you know, even if it's just a little bit of Himalayan sea salt and water, you know, as something to help the body detoxify or do you think nothing's really needed?

You definitely want to drink water. Clean, filtered water, ideally. Clean, filtered, structured water. Before and after the sauna session, - Most of the water in the body is structured water, so it's in the special, more bioavailable state, but the body uses liquid water for detoxification. We're predominantly water in our bodies. - Absolutely, you want to drink some water. And I actually do, recommend taking a binder actually with the sauna because you do detox a lot and much of the toxins are sweated out. But some of them do go into the bloodstream and go into the gut. - And so there's a number of binders that you can take. I'm a fan of natural binders like ozonated charcoal, And Dr. Group of Global Healing has a product called Toxin Binder. And you can take those whenever, but I... Believe it's most powerful to take it or right before you get in the sauna, actually, because then it's in your gut and as you start to expel the toxins from your cells, you have this binder in your stomach that is ready to grab those. Those are all really effective. I recommend zeolite, So there's a couple different brands out there. I like Advanced TRS, their brand is great because it's kind of a tasteless spray, but Zeolite is... Essentially a clay that's really safe and it's a heavy metal binder.

So it helps the body clear all these metals and it's really a multi-pronged approach is how we stay healthy nowadays and how we really detoxify effectively. So Basically what I do is sometimes I do dry brushing before the sauna.

And then I take my binder and I get into the sauna and then afterwards I get out and rinse off. In the shower and if I haven't done dry brushing, I use a brush in the shower exfoliate my whole body.

And then I drink more water. And - If you like electrolytes.

You can add definitely some salt and the juice half a lemon or something There's certain electrolyte products out there that you need to decide what's best for you on that. But I definitely drink after the sauna session and wait a little bit before I eat. And that's kind of like my go-to daily routine of how I use it. And I do that like four times. Or maybe five days a week, actually. It's important to understand too when you detox and you are losing some good minerals too, even as your body attempts to get rid of all the junk and the pollution. Having a natural food diet is really important to replace those minerals. And there's different approaches to that. Definitely, but it's something to consider. It's sauna therapy is part of a lifestyle. Of saying, hey, I don't want to just be healthy. I want to be actually optimal. I want to be as I want to be my highest and best self. And you can't be your highest and best self when there's lots of things inside you that aren't you. That don't belong.

Len Arcuri | 21:13

Right. And anything that's weighing you down, preventing you from being everything that you can be. And again, with parents who are listening right now, their focus is on their child.

So the way I would look at this is it's all about your decision making. You'll make better decisions, whatever they are for your child, what's right for them, as long as you are in a much better place.

So we're all exposed to toxins. It's relevant for parents. It's relevant for kids. And so there's a lot of different ways that you can help play better defense as well as getting rid of whatever needs to be gotten rid of. And again, I just feel like What the sauna for me is the way that seems to work the best and it feels the best. And I think with parents, if they're focusing on their child, you know, this Brian and I aren't doctors. We're not recommending anything you do. You should, you know, under the guidance of your medical practitioner. But if you're wanting just to do something as a lifestyle that just helped your body be all that can be. Sweating is a really powerful way of doing that. And With a child, especially, the more they're outside being grounded in nature, running around, sweating, I mean, that's phenomenal. But this gives you an option indoors, especially as we're hitting the winter months. Where just a very short amount of time within this zero EMF environment where you're helping the body become more capable by sweating out what needs to be sweated out. To do that in something that's really simple. Not a lot of time. Again, it can definitely benefit you, the parent. And I know with my son, I brought him in the sauna all the time. And actually he was in, before I found your company, he was in the sauna I had from a different company And the reason I made the switch is that the exact place my son sat in that sauna, when I actually took a meter to it to measure the EMF levels coming out, you know, they were much higher than they claimed. That's where, again, I came to your song because you backed it up. With something that truly was a zero or low EMF environment. And that's where for parents listening, Even if your child doesn't go in and sweat in the sauna, it just provides a healing sanctuary because very few of us know what it's like to not be exposed and bombarded by EMFs. And that's where your sauna is a great reading place where a child can go and sit. And just even if there's only one of your lamps on, It's just a very beneficial sanctuary. And I know... My son sometimes gets ramped up and kind of moves very fast. I found the sauna space is a phenomenal place for him just to get better regulated. And again, it provides a really nice, sanctuary for the child, but especially for the parent. When things kind of get chaotic for us, I mean, again, I just am so thankful I'm able to go and kind of decompress in the sauna space.

So there's a lot of benefits, like I said, in one single product, which I know you invented or you created this unique combination. Would you mind just sharing a little bit about your backstory? I know it has nothing to do with autism. You had your own health challenges.

Brian Richards | 24:33

- Yeah, absolutely. I would note that children can use the sauna.

So they just need to be supervised. They bet, you know, there's, Tons of research and many cultures who use Where the children are using the sauna from a very young age. They just need less time in it. And maybe less power so you can turn down some of the bulbs if you want in our product. But they really benefit from it just as much as we do.

So, Yeah, I have a 12 year old and a seven year old and, Almost eight. And I try to get them to use it as much as they can.

So yeah, it's something to consider not just for yourself, but for your whole family. And so yeah, you asked about my background. I came to Sauna, I came to this concept from a personal healing. Experience and a journey I - Had a lot of adrenal fatigue and things like acne and insomnia. I was lethargic. That's just toxic. And my mom actually recommended that I use sauna, that maybe I just need to detox a little bit. And, What I found after I explored how amazing the research is on sauna and how beneficial it is I found a concept called the electric light bath.

So, I did not invent the electric light bath, I kind of modernized it. So this is Dr. Kellogg's product. From the 1890s, He basically created this sauna with electric light bulbs and about 120 or more years ago. And he tested it on a lot of patients. You can read about this book online. It's called Light Therapeutics. And what he found, he was able to heal every type of chronic disease he came up against. And he documents it in this book, like, and he didn't know anything about mitochondria at that time, He just knew there was something special about the light that he did the sauna user up a lot more effectively than a regular sauna. And that there was...

Some particular healing aspect to the light itself. And this was part of an overall movement actually of light therapy in the early 20th century that's now been lost with the rise of like the FDA and AMA and stuff. There were a number of scientists were using electric light bulbs for healing. There was a There was Dr. Gaudialli, Dr. Dinshaw, there was Dr. Babbitt. And These are all contemporaries of Tesla, so the early 20th century. And they had amazing results. And unfortunately, the concept was kind of lost in time.

So I rediscovered it. And I had this, basically I built my own, Electric light bath. And I used it right before bed and I slept really well.

And then I used it the next night before bed. And I, again, slept really well. No more insomnia.

Yeah. So that really got me excited and I used it a lot. For a number of months and all my problems went away that I had at that point.

Like, I realized that I had some brain fog. Or what I should say is my cognitive function, my brain started working a lot better.

Like memory, recalling things and decision-making and not just cognitive function, like my overall mood. My perspective, my grasp of reality became more grounded, more centered more confident.

You know, more patient. I was really stunned by basically all these effects that it had on me. Even though I wasn't doing anything, I was just sitting there being. And that's why I didn't realize it at that time, but I've slowly realized that the most effective way what we're intending... What our purpose is, sort of Among other things, on earth in reality is to just be It's not to do so much stuff all the time, it's just being. When we're being our highest and best selves. And this is a very powerful way to help your body remember It's super powerful. It has magical healing powers inside. And It just needs to wake up.

You know, and remember that those are there. So this happened for me and, I started Sana Space and That was about a decade ago. And now we've grown a lot. It's definitely been challenging at times and maybe frustrating at times, but I'm always eternally grateful for all of the healing stories that you know, we've helped people along with in their lives. And so it's a product that helps everybody with everything because it's just helping the body cleanse itself and work like it naturally should. When that happens, you get resolution in and peripheral symptoms. And you get better body function and better gut function. And better brain function, And when your brain works better and it's not polluted with a lot of aluminum and mercury and glyphosate and all these things, That affects your mood. That you feel better, you feel more positive. And that was my experience.

So yeah, I started the company and really never looked back. I was doing rental real estate at the time. And I love building things, but I didn't enjoy any of the other aspects of that vocation. And this kind of fell into my lap and I just dropped my tools and left that old life behind and pursued this with gusto. And yeah, I'm, like I said, just super grateful for all the opportunities we've had to help Just help people remember how powerful they can be. How they can be empowered to heal themselves A healer never heals anyone else. We're just helping people. People heal themselves and remember how to do it. And it's both simple and complex. The healthy lifestyle, involves a lot more changes than just sauna. But sauna can be this big shift and this big mover and the light therapy too, People who are, have maybe changed their diet and, you know, change their relationship to blue light and their, They're engaging a lot better lifestyle habits , to cleanse and detoxify.

No, it's powerful. And as you're talking and looking at the testimonials, particularly that you have, it's not tied to any one condition, right? Because this is not about a particular illness or kind of autoimmune issue, it's more about This is getting to the root cause of what really might be in someone's way. It's not necessarily when you think about toxins about that the toxins are the root cause of a particular condition. It can definitely be a contributing factor. But unless you're doing something to actually detoxify, that toxic exposure can definitely be what's preventing you from benefiting from all those other modalities that you mentioned.

So you can have a really clean diet. But without a detoxification regimen, to help your body, I think the results that you might be able to get are limited. And so that's where this is a very powerful modality to work in, yes, for parent and child.

- If you're eating really clean but you have a leaky gut and you're not absorbing a lot because you have a lot of parasites and you have other stuff, you're not benefiting as much as you could from the food you're ingesting. And we're, When I say we're beings of light, that's not a metaphor. It's... It's very real. We consume photons from the sun for energy and for healing. And that's why in the sun or if you get a lot of sunlight, you're not as hungry. The sun is literally... Feeding you. And it's this has these complicated systems by which we absorb light and it activates healing processes in the cells. And so our, Just as important maybe more than our food diet is what is our light diet? We need all those things. All those... Environmental All the things in our environment that we had ancestrally We have a lot of powerful ways nowadays that we can recreate, mimic our ancestral environment. Sauna space is one of them. But our biology is designed to live in this, you know, pre, you know, this environment of many hundreds of years ago where there was no sugar and no white flour. And no EMFs? And we got lots of sun every day, lots of grounding and lots of self-care, lots of love. And lots of nervous system relaxation. And there's a lot of cool tech nowadays though and cool bioharmonizing tools, let's call them, to recreate some of those ancestral environmental factors in our modern lives, in our homes. For example, like a grounding sheet. And Asana Space Sauna, and our portable product, like our glow.

So we did a rebrand, Len, like you mentioned earlier. And so we changed some of our product names. They're still the same products, but they just have two new names. To the glow is a is one bulb. And. You can use the glow or our sauna panels, the hearth panels. That all are powered by the same spectrum, the firelight spectrum, because it cancels out blue light and flickering light so we can working with the screens and work with overhead LEDs that are giving us a lot of blue light, which is toxic to us. And we can cancel it out to help us deal with like screen fatigue and technology fatigue. This is another way where we're, transforming our indoor environment into something that's more healthy.

- Yeah, I just flipped mine on, which is right next to my computer monitor, and again, it does help, and So there's little things you can do just, again, to play better defense. And I love your rebrand. I think the Firelight concept is really easy to understand. And again, it goes to the word that you said initially about it's really more about naturally, like helping your body with natural ways that have been around since the beginning of time and really just allowing us in this modern lifestyle to tap more into that.

So, yeah, so I think all in all, this is definitely something that I know benefits me. Wanted to make this more, you know, widely understood for our listeners. And I know it's holiday season, Black Friday sales. This is a fantastic time to take advantage and to give your sauna experience. And the glow a test drive I think from the only other thing I would say is since it's cold and flu season you know my son came down with you know he picked something up and it turned out to, it was like a form of bronchitis that he was, you know, really kind of wiped out for about two weeks and I was caring for him. But in the meantime, every day I would be in that sauna sweating. And it's just, I truly believe by me doing that, it made me much more immune to all the stuff that was going around, including what he had.

So, you know, I just feel like it's just the most important thing I do for my own health. And again, there's other things that are important, but This is super easy and simple and enjoyable. And it's hard to check the box, all three of those boxes on anything that you might do for yourself.
